LIFE ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI is a 1- 3 day residency program inspired by MADCO's nationally touring production Liquid Roads. This multi - disciplinary program comes with a study guide that includes history of the people who lived along the Mississippi during an era when steam boats and train travel shifted Americans' lives. MADCO dancers and accomplished teachers visit the school to perform excerpts of Liquid Roads and teach creative movement workshops in the classroom. In partnership with St. Louis Arch and Great Rivers Greenway, MADCO helps coordinate field trips to the St. Louis Arch and take a tour of the Mississippi on steamboat river cruises.
BOOKS IN MOTION is a creative, one of a kind residency targeted to 4th through 6th grades. In partnership with collaborating schools, one featured "Books in Motion" book is selected & read to the students. This program promotes teachers and artists working together to design creative and inspiring curriculum that fosters appreciation for the arts, love for reading, and hands-on experiences that are unique to each school. Students are guided by MADCO teaching artists to produce a dance performance inspired by the selected book, and performed for teachers, family members and friends. "Books in Motion" comes with a complete study guide including activities, discussion questions, vocabulary words and more.
INSITE in collaboration with the Anthropedia Foundation and support from the Siteman Foundation, students get to pick from a variety of movement and health oriented classes that deepen body awareness, encourage team work, boost confidence, and connect mind, body & spirit. The day starts with a performance by MADCO performing artists, moves into wellness classes and ends with a reflection on their experience. We ask students to make 3 health goals so they can take ownership of their well-being.
